Vandivierian Connoisseurship

John Vandivier
  • open mindedness, agnosticism, science, and skepticism
Connoisseurship in the usual sense has been adapted into a method of sociological research by Elliot Eisner.

Vandivierian Connoisseurship:

  • The art of effective convenience sampling.
  • The ultimate convenience sample: The self. Secondarily, the social network and friendly strangers.
  • Playing red team.
  • Empathetic and imaginative counter-factual reasoning.
  • Quantifying and recognizing personal bias, error, lack of information, and reasoning techniques.
  • Expertise and sampling experts (randomly or non-randomly).
